Wellsboro

Last Friday Hubby and I drove out to Wellsboro to ride our bikes along the Pine Creek Gorge.  This is a very scenic place and I highly recommend it for hiking, biking or walking.  Even if you don't like to do any of those things, just driving out there for dinner and to walk around the town would be a nice day out.

We rode 28 miles!!!  This is a world record for me since I don't know when.  The last several miles were quite difficult though.

Took last Sat. off.
Walked to church with friend, Joyce on Sun.

Yoga

I try to go to yoga at least once a week.  It is another very good exercise for the neurologically impaired.  Last Thur.  I attended a class at Donna's house.  It was a hard workout, but I needed the stretching.

Biking

I've been biking with Donna once a week this summer.  I'm so glad that I still have enough balance to ride a bike!  Last Wed. we went to the end of North Eaton Road.  About 8 miles round trip.

NIA

I discovered a wonderful exercise program called NIA (Neuromuscular Integrative Action) thanks to my yoga teacher and running, walking, biking friend, Donna.  It is part dance, part marshal arts and part yoga.  It's held on Tuesdays at the Dietrich Theater.  I love it!  It is just what a neurologically challenged person needs.  I've made some new friends there, too.

So I went to NIA last Tuesday.  I was a little tired from the race the day before, but it felt good.  I am ecstatic that I can even do it!

Change of course

Well, since I haven't been able to keep up with this blog, and because of the fact that no one reads it, I decided to turn in into my "workout log blog."  This way I can keep track of my activities to see how what I do affects the way I feel physically, emotionally and spiritually.  Also, exercise is the best remedy for PD.  So changing it isn't too off topic.

9-1-14
(Labor Day) -  Ran first 5K since June of 2011, when I ran the  Frank Valvano 5K. The day                  after that race I passed out in church and when I went to the ER, the doctor found a target                    rash behind my left knee.  Lyme Disease! I was sick for the next year and a half.  I spent                      most of the summer of 2011 in bed.  I fell into a very bad depression and felt my days of                      running were over.  Actually, I felt my days of doing anything were over.  I seriously                          thought I was headed for the nursing home.  (See previous posts to understand what I was
going through.)   But God had a different plan for me and I didn't go there.

Anyway, I finished the Labor Day 5K in a very slow time of 35:45.  It was VERY muggy.  But it was to raise money for Teen Challenge,so it was worth it.  Richard, Alex and I met John at Kirby Park for the race.  The boys each got 2nd in their age group, but I was snake bitten, which means that I was one place away from getting a medal.  I really don't care about winning anything, I just thank God I was able to finish without passing out!

A little rabbit trail

Wow! It took me forever to figure out how to write a new post! That's what I get for staying away so long. Today I am going to rabbit trail a bit, actually a lot. This entry won't seem like it has anything to do with PD, but hopefully in the future I can explain how it does. Maybe you'll see the link as you read. I've been doing a lot of thinking about trash lately. Not necessarily the type that lies along the side of the road, though there certainly is a lot of that. I can only tackle one problem at a time though. My dilemma is the trash that is in my house that I didn't ask for. Namely, the unwanted catalogs, flyers, credit cards, etc. You get the point because you receive them too. It is really starting to bother me! So I went to google (my source of answers to all my questions) and typed in "How do I get off mailings lists ?" Google sent me to the DMAChoice website and I did it! I asked to be dropped from ALL mailing lists! I must add that to get off credit card offers they sent me to another site. I did this also. So, it will take 60 to 90 days. I'll let you know how it goes and maybe you can reduce the amount of unwanted mail you receive and throw out. Now, this might not work for mass mailings. I called a bank to get off their list and they had no idea how to do it. I might have to head down to to the PO next!

Back from a long break

I can't believe so much time has gone by since I've written on this blog of mine. I'm happy to report that the last year and a half has been one of growing, healing, and becoming alive again. And for that I thank my Heavenly Father. I started PD medication over a year ago and have seen positive results. I'm thinking more clearly, babysitting my awesome grandson and exercising again. What a blessing! I really thought that I was ready for the nursing home back in the summer of 2011. And the truth is, that could happen some day in the future. But I have to believe that "The Father will give me the ticket for the train when I'm ready to get on," to loosely quote Corrie ten Boom's father in the book, The Hiding Place.
"Trust in the Lord with all your might, and lean not in your own understanding." Proverbs 3:5
